You have the power to change yourself and your path to success as an agent. Small changes here and there can -and will- change the trajectory of your business. We came up with the top 3 things you can stop doing today (and we mean today) that are ultimately hurting your business.
1. Stop thinking you can’t compete with big companies. In today’s market, consumers are more informed than ever before. They have access to all of the information they need about homes and neighborhoods on their phones at any time. Companies like Zillow have changed the game for everyone, but if you’re a local real estate agent your business may be suffering because of it. Luckily for us, people want an expert in their corner when making such an important decision, which means they’ll pay more for that expertise. Understand that you don’t have to compete, you are running a completely different race than these companies. Should you strive to meet goals, and surpass your achievements from last year? Sure. But you don’t need to be comparing your wins with the wins of huge companies. Zillow isn’t going anywhere, so learn to utilize it. It’s not perfect, but it can be used as an effective marketing tool for real estate agents.
If you want to succeed in real estate, you need to use Zillow as part of your strategy. Don’t miss out on leads and sales opportunities you should be capitalizing on. Agents have to build trust with their clients and they need to be able to communicate value at every step of the process. You can create a bigger impact on your business than Zillow ever could. Let go, and find a way to use it to your benefit. It’s here to stay, and so are you!
2. Stop giving into distractions looking for an easy button. There is always going to be some fancy new tool or software that will supposedly make your life easier. Odds are, it’s just another gimmick used to trick new agents into giving over control of their business. The temptation of buying leads and outsourcing your business will always be there. And the “easy” way might sound great right now, but all you are doing is giving away control over the foundation of your business, piece by piece. Work hard, use your database, grow relationships, and build a solid foundation to grow your business for years to come. You’ve heard us say it a million times, there is no easy button in real estate.
3. Stop avoiding personal growth. This is a huge one. It is SO important to acknowledge that you have work to do on yourself. It’s not a weakness, personal growth is a strength. If anything, the mindset that it’s a “weakness” is a weakness in itself. CEO of BTG Real Estate and co-host of the Authentic Agent Podcast, Kyle Bates says, “If you aren’t growing personally at the same rate as your business, you aren’t doing this right.” Your business won’t succeed until you do. Recognize where you’re lacking, make changes, and grow alongside your business. You have to realize challenges are meant to be overcome and every opportunity (positive or negative) presents a chance to grow.
Be intentional about implementing these changes, and watch yourself get out of the negative mindset for good. Believe it or not, taking the time to set yourself up for success will always benefit you in the long run. Stop comparing yourself to huge Fortune 500 companies. The only person you should be comparing yourself to is you. Track your progress and grow on your own. To put it simply, build your business on a solid foundation, don’t worry about anyone but yourself, and be intentional about your personal growth. With these few changes, you’ll be on your way to greatness with a successful career in real estate.
