Utilizing Social Media as an Agent

November 29, 2021

As an experienced agent, you might think you’ve got this industry all figured out. But there is ALWAYS room for growth, and if you want to kick start your business for the new year, then you need to get on social media. We know, you think you don’t need it.

You’re probably thinking: “Heck, I’ve made it this far without it, why start now?”

Well here’s why: unless you plan on completely leaving the industry within the next couple years, we can assure you you’ll get passed up by new agents who aren’t afraid to use these new strategies. Social media will only get bigger and bigger, it’s in your best interest to jump on the train while it’s on the rise! It’s simple. Here’s what you can do:

Before Anything Else: Create Your Profiles

This is the easiest part. You’ll want to jump on all the big platforms eventually, but if you want to start off simple, Facebook and Instagram are the way to go. All you need to do is create a business account for both of these platforms, even if you already have a personal account. The easiest way to do this is to create a “page” rather than a profile. Make sure to list your full name and that you’re a real estate professional. After creating your profile and adding a profile pic, it’s time to invite everyone you know to “like” your page. (see this blog post for more on this part)

Tip #1: Post Consistently

The key to social media is really quite simple, just keep posting regularly. Social media is all about exposure, and maintaining relevance, so as long as you post somewhat consistently, the algorithm will do the hard part of showing your content to other users. Something to take into consideration is you don’t want to annoy your followers/friends with useless posts or an overwhelming amount of posts.

Try your best to keep your content helpful and relatable, but keep it fresh.

Tip #2: Create a Personal Connection

Although this is your business page, people often resonate with those who aren’t trying to sell to them 24/7. Use this space to connect with your potential clients based on shared interests, values, etc. By creating a connection, you are already marketing yourself, without having to shove a sales pitch down their throat.

People do business with people they like, remember that!

Tip #3: Be Ready for Questions

For most people, reaching out to a realtor can be a lot of pressure. Social media alleviates this pressure by creating a welcoming environment for anyone to ask questions & learn about the buying/selling process. This is your opportunity to tell people all about what you do. When someone starts asking questions or comments on posts, make sure you jump in! It might be uncomfortable at first if you aren’t used to talking about yourself, but keep in mind social media is all about networking.

The more you talk with people and connect with your audience, the better your business will do.

Tip #4: Show Your Value & Educate

Since you’ve created this safe space for potential clients to get to know you, you want to SHOW them what it’s like to work with you. Use your platform to educate and prove you are an expert in your field.

Use your posts to share helpful tips, common misconceptions, etc. so when your followers are ready to buy, they come to you!

Tip #5: Business Growth

As an agent, you are your business. It’s important you can welcome feedback and criticism, both for your own growth and to share with your audience. Social media is a great place to share success stories, good reviews, current listings, etc.

Use your platform as your own free marketing.

After all, door knocking and cold calling are out the window. How else are you going to get your name out there?

If you want to grow your business, stay relevant in the social media realm, or communicate with customers more effectively, then make sure you are using all of the latest and greatest tools. They may seem intimidating but they’re all very simple to use and are crucial if you want to keep up with the ever-changing industry. Use these tips to adapt and before you know it, you’ll be a social media master.
